hello everybody! i just got back from my first two conventions of the new year, and they were a ton of fun! first was the inaugural punk rock flea market in my hometown of mobile, alabama! saw a lot of old friends and had a wonderful time. then it was FLUKE in athens, georgia… my second time going and it was great. this post is to write about some of my newest comics i sold at both!

iu_16693_4518837.jpg

first off: the sunshine state! this guy’s just a little tiny baby zine composed of places i liked going to when i lived in florida. think of it as a sequel of sorts to the going mobile zine i made last august. then there’s put on currents, where’s the alcohol, a compilation of the first autobio comics i ever made. (i’ve been alluding to making this book on here for some time, so it’s nice to finally have it out). some of it makes me very uncomfortable, and not just because the drawings were so sloppy. but i know as a fan of autobio comics, i want to read what makes someone uncomfortable. i want to relate and engage more with their lives. so i figured no harm in releasing some of my first comics i made, which still mean a lot to me. that said, at this time, i’ve only decided to make 35 copies (10 for family/friends) so snag one NOW if you want one. then lastly is hourly comics day 2016-19. it just compiles all the hourlies i did for the past four of those, which are pretty fun to look back on. you can buy those comics from my storenvy for just $1-7 smackaroos, plus pins and the something anything comics too.

OR, come see me at my next convention. i included my little poster for them all above, if you didn’t notice :) next is free comic book day at criminal records here in sunny atlanta ga. hoping to get out to more this year, and not just stop in may like i did last time. okay. guess what time it is now?

time to get back to brobot and animating <3 working as we speak on revising the script i had for a halloween episode and getting it into working order. if i have time today, i'm going to work on updating the brobot rig... each one will have a new rig cause they'll all be in halloween costumes! isn't that fun? anyways. see you soon with an update on that! here's a bit of dialogue i know i'm gonna keep:

iu_5945_4518837.jpghello everyone! my newest issue of something anything is out! you can snag one on my storenvy, hunt for one at one of ATL’s many comic and record shops, or grab one from me directly at the conventions i’m doing this year! i made this comic over january, and it was mainly pretty fun to make. it’s funny, all my early plans for this comic were pretty much scrapped by the end. instead, i did a bunch of newer ones. there’s a lot of unfinished outtakes i may revisit at some point.

right now i’m finishing up that paperback collection of ooooooooold dailies i made that’ll be going to print this month. then, randomly, i’m gonna make another comic! that’s right! i found an old script for an animation i wrote years ago that i always sorta liked. i’m telling you this script was old… i think i wrote it whenever i made the animation guilty pleasure, which did pretty well here on NG :) anyway, it definitely doesn’t fit what i’m doing animation-wise anymore, so i adapted it into a comic, with wraparounds where i’m a dusting off the old script like an archeologist! haha! that one will also be done hopefully this month, at which point i’ll post that here too.

speaking of what i’m doing animation-wise, after that new comic is completed, i’m going to re-start work on the brobot halloween special, which will likely consume all of my time and creative energy until… *checks watch* halloween! so. yeah. i’m planning to make the fuck out of that deadline and have a really good episode available to watch. sorry if anyone has been wondering where brobot is… he’s just taken a back-seat to comics briefly.

but you can get him — in pin form — at the conventions i mentioned! i’m selling little brobot pins like last year. (ps they’re also on my storenvy). i also made some just say bro pins, as seen in the episode. those are up for pre-order :)

okay, enjoy the comic if you buy it :)

greetings all, been a minute.

right now i'm working on a new issue of something anything, my autobio comics series. i'd like to have the issue done by the end of this month, if possible. after that, i'm finally gonna start on compiling a bunch of old, unreleased daily comics into a collection called put on currents, where's the alcohol... should be a nice, perfect-bound book that i'll be selling at some upcoming fests i'll be at. you can def expect to see me at the following fests:

march 24 -- punk rock flea market (mobile, al, my hometown!)

march 30 -- fluke (athens, ga)

may XX -- chattanooga zine fest (chattanooga, tn)

at those, i'll also have all the old issues of something anything, plus brobot buttons and stickers, hopefully. i'm also at this exact moment taking my hourly comics days from years past and compiling them into a little cheapo zine that i'll have there too. i want to do more conventions this year, but traveling is hard. it'd be a dream to do STAPLE or SPX or something.

solitary man in giant auditorium audience: bruh, when you gonna make some more animations?

me: calm down, fanbase!

you can expect a new brobot episode out later this year. i was working on a little project that was an animated version of a comic i did, but it fell by the wayside. i just wasn't that interested in it and i don't know, i've been in a major funk more or less since i completed the last something anything. i took on more responsibilites at work, though that's not entirely to blame for it. we've also moved houses, though again... i am myself to blame. i boarded some of the brobot episode you'll see in october last summer, and i'm gonna try and write another draft of it before i begin working on it, which will be in february/march (or whenever this issue and put on currents is done). it's a halloween show and i haven't taken a look at it since last summer, but i liked it a lot and hopefully with enough lead time it'll be out for the season.

okay, i'll leave you with the entiriety of that project i was working on last month. enjoy it, lemme know what you think or if i should complete it.

greetings all,

i’ve got a new zine out called going mobile. no big fanfare for this one, it’s just a very small celebration of my hometown through illustrations. i was back in town there this weekend, and stocked it in a few stores along the way -- you can now get it in mob-town at satori, mobile records, and port city comics. in b'ham, you can get it beginning next week at sanctum comics. my goal’s to have it in most comic shops here in alabama, and it’s available for purchase now on my storenvy as usual. for this project, i was trying to emulate the simplicty/economy of one of my fav artists, jp coovert. i tried it on paper, digital, paper, then digital again, and more times. nothing seemed to be working. eventually the goal of this project just became to overcome it and complete the damn thing. it may be sloppy, it’s not what i had envisioned, but it’s time to move past it.

4518837_153417176963_DkRGXvuVsAAn_Ke.jpg

i’ve just been going through a real weird time this summer. artisically, i haven't been sure of what i want for myself or what to focus on. i wrote a few drafts of a halloween brobot episode and even recorded the soundtrack. i put together some of an animatic, and realized i didn’t have enough time to complete it in time for the holiday. then i made going mobile, and despite it being 20 or so simple-ass drawings, it took fuckin forever. i’ve been lazy, confused, and mainly just neutral… which is oddly scarier than a more concrete emotion. i don’t know what i’m doing or what i should be doing; i’m just dreadfully indecisive as to what i want. there’s this paramore song called caught in the middle which is really how i’ve been feeling… “try to get going but it’s not that simple / gotta get going or they’ll call me a quitter”. i must admit, i’m very happy in my everyday life, but what’s up next?

well, i’ve got some ideas for a series called FUNTASIA. i haven’t even really begun working on it really, so it’s in that embryonic stage where it’s just messy ideas. i don’t want to abandon brobot, but it’s looking like that next episode WILL be the next episode of that, and since it’s not for THIS halloween, it’s… you get the point. see ya for a minute, brobot. i’ve got a lot of comic ideas for the next something anything, and i’d like another one of those out before the end of the year. but i’d really like to tackle funtasia. so i guess THAT’s what’s next. i hope i get outta this soon. thanks for following me if you do!

4518837_152549992773_sa3-3.jpggreetings everyone! i havent posted in a while, so ill start with a quick recap.

last you heard, i’d just finished brobot ep 2 and was preparing to go to FLUKE in athens. that was my first time ever selling comics and hoo boy, lemme tell you, was i nervous. if you ask anyone, i was that weird guy going around nervously trying to talk to people but then not being able to hear them in return because of an ear infection. so yeah. my nerves chilled out by the end of the day and i had a great time tho. i met a bunch of really nice people and i’m super thankful for that. i’m going to try and do more festivals/conventions, beginning with tomorrow’s chattanooga zine fest where i’ll be debuting…

SOMETHING ANYTHING ISSUE 3!

that’s right, the long belated follow-up to my last issue from (checks back of issue) may of 2016, holy fuck… but anyway, it’s been a crazy last month trying to get it completed in time for chattanooga (a month ago, i had like three pages done. so since then, especially this past week, i’ve just been a comic-makin machine). i’ve had a lot of developments personally in the past two years, so i tried to fit in as much as i could. consequently, this new issue is WAY longer (30+ pages!). i’m hoping it’ll be more worthwhile than the OG editions of issues 1 and 2, which were a puny 12-15 pages. speaking of those, i’ll be phasing out no 1 (straight up, i can’t bear to look at the art in it anymore), but i’ll prob still sell no 2 for a while.

anyway, i’m really excited about this new comic. it’s got some stuff i’ve been wanting to include for a long time, including funny tales from childhood and really-real/sad stuff i was too shy to include in other installments. so come get it at chattanooga zine fest today! i’m hoping to be asheville zine fest maybe too in june but we’ll see. by that time, i hope to have a simpler zine i’ve been brainstorming called going mobile. nothing fancy, just a trip around my hometown in scribbled depictions. and also MAAAAYBE a book (!) of reaaaally old comics from when i first started doing comics. we’ll see though (can you tell i’m indecisive/broke?).

okay thats enough! something anything 3 is available now on my new storenvy.

hey all! my new episode of BROBOT is up :) i’m gonna briefly write about it!

brobot becoming class president was one of the first ideas i had, waaaaay back in like early 2015. some of the dialogue was even written that fall, and the first draft of the episode was completed in june 2016. i was going to make it the first episode of brobot then, as i was unsatisfied with how the original animatic for the debut show came out. but after taking another look at THAT episode, i just decided to get back going making it. which meant this one took the backseat! i got back to work on it after finishing the first episode last march, completing a couple of drafts by may, when i recorded it, boarded it, and began animating it!

i utilized rigs in this episode, which i’d never done before. i thought it would speed things up, but it still wound up taking forever. i guess i just move at a glacial pace creatively, which i dislike but it’s kinda whatever. anywaaaaaaay. glad it’s out! me and my gf are goin to chattanooga this weekend for a celebratory getaway, and two weeks from now, i’m gonna be in athens, ga at the fluke festival selling my minicomics, something anything 1 and 2 (the last time you can get the original editions before i combine those into one issue!), brobot buttons, and hopefully a little freebie comic! i’ve never gone to a convention/festival before, so i’m like :OOO after that, i’m gonna really try and complete a new issue of something anything. artisically, i want to alter my focus this year to include more comics and also, do more figure drawing. but i already know i have a halloween episode of brobot that i wrote over two years ago that i thought was pretty good… it could use signfiicant polshing up, but i think i’ll miss doing brobot. soooo… hopefully i can squeeze all that in.

thanks for watching if you do! :)

suppose it's time for another update on the new ep of brobot!!

the episode is 95% done! :D all the main animation has been completed, which is pretty cool. it's enjoyable to watch this episode from start to finish, i really like it. i hope people like it too. it's much lighter than the first episode in tone, funnier (i think), and feels more like me! i've got a couple of things left to do before the episode's ready to come out, including some animation touch-ups and re-animating two shots. i've also written a small new scene for story clarity (one that was in the animatic but i've significantly revised) that i'm recording the vocals for today. it's only about four or five shots, so it shouldn't take too long to knock out.

anyway, the episode is very very close to the finish line! i'd love to have it out by march 24 or so... that's when i'll be at FLUKE in athens ga! i've never gone to a festival before and never tabled, so it's a big deal for me :) i'll be selling comics, a new freebie comic that's a preview of my next issue of something anything, and brobot pins! :D anyway, see you soon!

hi all!

know it's been a second since the last time i updated. the end of the year was a little difficult for me on the animation front. first off, i got to a scene in the episode i wasn't particularly clear with when i storyboarded it, leading to a lot of decision-making. it didn't help that the shots have a lot of things i hate doing -- animating fire, mainly. either way, my natural inclination to be indecisive sorta took over and slowed down progress. and of course, it was the holiday season in retail. it seemed worse than usual this year, so that took a lot out of me.

and when it came time to stop being unproductive and i re-approached the project, my software was having issues. i use toon boom harmony advanced, and there's been little tics here and there that make it hard to work at all. i'll do my best to explain: typically, if one is on a selected layer and you want to use the select tool, it would (as best as i recall, in case i'm having some mandela effect shit) select things ONLY on that layer. instead, it's selecting ALL the layers in the vicinity i select. and i've got a ton of layers because of the rigs i've created. sooo yeah. later on, another issue arose where the light table wouldn't stay enabled while using the select tool. so i can't move pieces around over my washed-out BG if i wanted to. i updated the software, posted on forums, emailed support... nothing.

so that just led to me feeling sorry for myself. i took another look at where i was last year at this time, and the year before that, and before that, and so on, and i discovered i get into a weird depressive phase in terms of art/progress in winter. i don't want to claim i have some sort of seasonal depression, but anyway. that's not something i need to worry about. the good news is is that i recently have been making much better progress and i'm actually animating the very last two or three shots of this episode! that doesn't mean i'm done just yet, but i'm very close. i've still got to animate the tag, record and animate two new shots for story purposes earlier in the show, fix animation errors here and there and go back to at least two shots i halfway abandoned to try and get ahead, and more audio mixing and such.

but i'm basically looking at a february release for episode 2, so i'm excited :) here's a progress shot. see you soon!
